Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906) was an African American poet, novelist, and playwright. He gained recognition for his dialect poetry, which celebrated African American culture and conveyed the struggles of his community. Dunbar’s works include “Lyrics of Lowly Life” and “The Sport of the Gods.”
