Johnny Appleseed is an English Broadcasting, Political Journalism short story by American writer William D'Arcy Haley. It was first published in 1830. Johnny Appleseed: A Pioneer Hero is the story of a caring nurseryman, John Chapman, well known in the Fort Wayne, Indiana region in the 1830s, who became a folk hero known as Johnny Appleseed. Haley's story, the chief source of most adaptations thereafter, was published in Harper's Magazine in November, 1871.
